“Just being Audrey”

Hello everybody!

I hope you guys are well.

A couple of months ago, my youngest daughter stumbled upon this book at the library and was fascinated with the front cover.

“Just Being Audrey” by Margaret Cardillo, Illustrated by Julia Denos

She simply said, “She’s beautiful,” and I responded, “She sure is.”

Of course, this biography book for children made it to our checkout pile and my daughters were wonderfully introduced to Audrey Hepburn. The illustrations inside were just as beautiful as the front cover. What made this book even more fantastic for me was when I suggested to my youngest daughter that she should draw her own version of the front cover and her eyes immediately lit up at the idea (my oldest daughter loves to draw and my youngest loves emulating her sister, so she’s a little budding artist as well.) The very next morning she sat down on the floor with her drawing pad, a pencil and the Audrey book. Her concentration was fierce and it took all morning. I gave her space and didn’t peek once.

Finally, she was ready to unveil her masterpiece.

Needless to say, I was one proud mama and I couldn’t stop gushing over her drawing. She did a great job! 🙂

A book that teaches you about a great person and has illustrations that can inspire a 5 year old to draw her own version is a definite gemstone. Check it out at your local library and if they don’t have it, request it!

Chalk Art

Let me draw something for you

Just wait and see

It’ll be something new

You’ll be so proud of me

The ground will be my canvas

We’ll share it with the world

The colors will be vibrant

Every single line and swirl.

A year ago, I drew

a plain happy face,

warranting many snapshots.

Nowadays,

my art has evolved

comprised of such details

including a diamond wand.

You asked me if I was done

and I said, “Not yet,

she needs eyelashes

and rainbow lipstick.”

Finally,

I dust chalk off my hands and knees

and sit proudly

beside my art while saying, “Cheese!”

Hello everybody!

I hope you guys are well.

We had a great week-end with nice weather and as you can see some fun at the park with chalk! I always bring a Ziploc bag full of jumbo size chalk so my daughters can let their creativity soar out. My oldest daughter impressed me with how far she’s come along with drawing. It was a lot of fun watching her and my youngest, who is currently drawing simple happy faces as well as shapes. My husband joined in the fun and afterwards we treated the girls with a trip to McDonald’s for some happy meals. It was a great day.

Surprising Art

Hello everybody! I hope you guys are well.

I’m making my blog post today as a tribute to my daughter’s art. It’s a blog art gallery for her.

The other day she was quietly working on the dining room table. She was drawing, coloring, cutting, and gluing away. I simply thought that she was doing one of her wonderful drawings, but boy was I ever wrong. When she finished she surprised me with this piece:

Is this call 2D or 3D art? I’m not sure, but I do know that it’s absolutely beautiful. I was speechless and in awe when she presented it to me. By the way that’s me under the rainbow! Do you love my red lips? 🙂 I asked her how she came up with this idea and she responded by saying that she had seen her arts and crafts teacher doing this project with another class so she decided to make one of her own. Simply fabulous. We looked at it and I, of course, took several pictures. Then my daughter realized that she didn’t include her daddy. I told her if you want to include more into your masterpiece, go ahead.

Here’s the finished project: She drew her dad, sister, and herself (on top of the rainbow). Oh, she also gave me a lollipop in my hand. Now, it’s complete!

This last piece she drew yesterday. She used stickers and made little flowers out of them, drew a cool airplane, connected the star stickers, and as you can see one of her characters is sad. Why? Well, that’s her and she’s sad because she’s running a fever and next to her is me. I love how she made me shorter than her (I’m short, but not that short.) We’re battling germs again, but she’s getting better. Taking her medicine and drinking lots of water, plus resting. Since it’s spring recess, I’m happy that she’s able to get better without missing school.

Hello everybody! I hope you guys are well. I wanted to share a great book with you that I purchased for my daughter to encourage and develop her drawing skills.

It’s called 501 Things to Draw and the price is wonderful. It makes a great gift so if you’re looking for something to give kids 5 years and older get it before it goes out of stock. On the website there’s only one picture of the book, but I’m going to show you more. The book is like a binder, but you can’t take the pages out and there are eight themes to choose from. They are separated by dividers and there are about 32 pages, 2 drawings per page, in each theme.
