Picture Day

Hello everybody!  I hope you guys are well.  Yesterday, my daughter had a rough day at school.  Poor little thing threw up during lunch.  I got the call and I raced to her school with a change of clothing and to bring her home.  She was REALLY SAD because she didn’t want to leave!  In fact, she wanted to go back to school because her class was going to do an art project and she didn’t want to miss it.  My sweet, little artist.  It broke my heart, but I knew she needed to relax a bit at home.  She has a cough and we have been trying to spit and blow out the germs completely.  She told me the coughing made her throw up.  I advised her for the future, if she ever felt that she was going to throw up again, to try to find the nearest bathroom or simply throw up on the floor instead of on her clothes.  I did my best in explaining things in a funny way to cheer her up and hopefully have my advice stay floating around in her memory bank.  Plus, I told her that she needed to rest because the following day was Picture Day.  That sealed the deal and made her happy.

As for myself, I’m filled with so much anticipation.  I can’t wait to see her first school pictures.  Her portrait and her class picture.  I remember during the first parent/teacher night when her teacher said that school pictures were becoming obsolete due to technology being so advanced nowadays.  I thought, “What?  Obsolete?  No way, I can’t wait to purchase her first package of school pictures, especially Kindergarten.”  My husband was able to take her to school today (Jury Duty calls), which is a treat for my daughter because I always take her.  I kissed her goodbye and said see you later.  With her special, dressy headband on her head, I reminded her to smile really big when the photographer told her to.  I can’t wait to see the results and let the school memories start forming.

Take good care all.  Until next time…

My little artist

Hello everybody!  I hope you guys are well.  Yesterday night, my husband and I went to our first parent/teacher conference.  It was pretty exciting to see the classroom where my daughter goes to learn Monday through Friday.  It was bigger than I had imagined so that was impressive and reassuring.  Before we entered the classroom, our daughter showed us her artwork displayed on the bulletin board that was titled, “Our Summer.”

I had provided her teacher with some pictures of our vacation to Massachusetts and my daughter drew a picture of us in our rental house and wrote down that she went on vacation during the summer.  I’m one proud mama! 🙂

My daughter has been practicing writing way before she started school.  Sometimes it’s a task for her, but when it comes to arts and crafts, she’s all smiles.  The other day she took a piece of paper and her scissors and started cutting away.  She was in the zone!  When she finished, I was so proud of my little artist that I took a small, forgotten frame and gave it a makeover to display my daughter’s new artwork.  I’ve had this frame for a long time, even before my first child, and back then I decided to paint over the original color.  I was new to arts and crafts so my attempt to redesign was amateurish.  I like to believe that I know a heck of a lot more now when it comes to crafting so my frame got a new paint job.  For some UNKNOWN reason (maybe a brain fart, I don’t know), I absolutely forgot to take a before pic.  😦  Maybe subconsciously, I didn’t want anyone to see how ugly the frame was before, but here it is now:

How awesome and fitting are the apples on this frame?  I gave it about four coats of Anita’s All Purpose Acrylic True Red (#11003) paint, used FolkArt Varnish Gloss (882) to make it shine, and for the panel inside the frame, I couldn’t wait to use the Americana Chalkboard paint, which as you can see, it worked!  I wrote, Mami and Olivia, because my daughter told me that she made us.  She cut out little pieces of paper, then glued them together, and drew what she wanted.  When she saw the frame with her work, her humongous smile was so heart warming.  Now, I’m making it my mission to have markers, crayons, scissors, glue, pencils, etc. easily available for her so her imagination and creativity can soar from her mind onto paper for everyone to see.

Just like this other piece, made with markers.

Take care all.  Until next time…

Schools closed…hello happy butterfly

Hello everybody!  Well, schools closed in observance of Yom Kippur and I asked my daughter what she wanted for lunch.  She replied so innocently, “A butterfly.”  She just melts my heart away.  🙂

Her butterfly is made of PBJ sandwich, mozzarella/cheddar cheese stick, one pickle cut in half, two chocolate chip morsels, and marshmallows from her cereal.

Take care all.  Until next time…

My daughter’s 1st day of Kindergarten!

Hello everybody!  I hope you guys are well.  I, on the other hand, am a basket FULL of emotions.  I’m happy, sad, proud, worried and extremely scared.  Why, you may ask?  Well my beautiful daughter just went to her 1st day of Kindergarten.  It was time for me to let her go into the real world and it was a daunting task to do.  I know I have to relax and just let life happen naturally.  But I also know that we live in a world that can be very, very cruel.

Yes, I’m a realist, but I’m going to do my best to focus on the positive and see the glass as “half full”.  Yadda, yadda, yadda.

My daughter woke up excited.  I made her breakfast, one of her favorites: chocolate chip pancakes with a side of sliced apples.  We put her uniform on, took pictures, and started our walk to school.  She, understandably, became heavy footed as we got closer to school.  I told her everything was going to be ok.  We were met with chaos, of course, at the entrance of the school’s cafeteria, but we were able to enter and find her class and teacher.  Then I looked at my daughter’s face and it was covered in pure sadness.  I hugged and kissed her.  I did my very best to put on a brave face, but honestly we were both on the verge of tears.  I reassured her that things were going to be ok, that she was a brave little girl, and that I was going to be there to pick her up, always.  I left her with the teacher and the other kids, looked at her one more time and mouthed “It’s ok,” turned around and left the building.  As soon as I saw my husband, who was outside with our two-year old daughter, I started to BAWL.  He hugged me and we walked home discussing how difficult, but necessary this new journey was, for all of us.  Good luck and may you learn a lot my sweet, little but brave girl.

Until next time…

Funny Face Sandwiches

Hello everybody!  School begins next week and my oldest daughter is about to enter Kindergarten.  I didn’t enroll her in Pre-K for two main reasons:  I wanted her to spend more time with her little sister and form an indestructible bond and I simply wasn’t ready to let her go.  The bond has been formed, but alas I’m still finding it really hard to let her go and there’s nothing I can do about it.  I can home school her, but I need to give her a chance to be among other children and experience a new environment.  I have to at least try.

I am going to miss her greatly, especially during lunchtime.  I have been feeding her since the day she was born and as she grew older, her palette grew as well.  Some days she’ll ask for pasta with a chicken patty or a whole wheat pizza or her favorite, a funny face.  What’s a funny face?  Well, it’s a peanut butter and jelly sandwich along with other items that I put together constructing a funny face.

Here are some examples:

PB&J sandwiches, mixed salad, red apples, grapes, bananas, strawberry, mini marshmallows, and chocolate chips

PB&J sandwiches, banana, broccoli, apples, pickles, shredded mozzarella cheese, and chocolate chips

PB&J sandwiches, apples, banana, raisins, cherry tomatoes, and chocolate chips

About a few weeks ago, I surprised her with a different sandwich, a happy face butterfly.  She loved it!

PB&J sandwich, mozzarella cheese stick, pickle, marshmallows from cereal, and chocolate chips

When she starts school, she does have a choice between eating the school lunch or I can send her off with food in a lunch box, but I don’t believe that the happy faces are going to stay intact in her lunch box.  😦  At least, I’ll have the weekends until she gets too old.  I’ll settle for that.  🙂  Until next time…
