Hello everybody!  I hope you guys are well.  This post is dedicated to my 6-year-old god-daughter, Brianna, who had her tonsils removed yesterday.  Poor thing was scheduled for surgery in the morning and wasn’t allowed to eat anything after nine o’ clock the night before.  At 2:30 pm (surgery day), I sent a text to her mom asking how the surgery went.  Her mom, Lisa (my cousin in law), replied back saying that they were still waiting to go into surgery and that Brianna was starving and not very happy!  Heck, I would be too!  Finally at 4 pm, yes 4, she went in and everything went well.  I heard there was a lot of crying afterwards, a lot of crying.  Poor baby!  Hopefully, she’s enjoying all that ice cream and jello she’s entitled to eat for now.  Brianna, you’re a trooper and I hope you GET WELL SOON!

I found the picture above on www.pinterest.com and thought, “Is this real?  A Little Golden Book with the subject of tonsils.  That’s amazing!”  I wish I could send something like this to Brianna, but then again I wouldn’t want to remind her of the pain her little 6-year-old self is enduring so instead I’m mailing her some coloring pages with her favorite characters such as Minnie Mouse that I printed out.  Hopefully, it’ll somewhat brighten her day.

Toy hangover

Hello everybody!  I hope you guys are well.  Christmas has come and gone and now we’re dealing with a massive toy hangover.  My daughters got so many presents toys that they’re walking around the house now dazed and confused.  It’s so overwhelming, even for me.  They’re jumping from one toy to the other while I’m running after them to clean up after each toy they dumped on the carpet before they move on to the next.  It’s crazy over here and I’m not even innocent to the crime of toy overload.  I’m guilty as heck.  I wanted to firmly stay at a two present limit per child, but I went completely over that limit.  I went totally mad, with happiness of course, when I saw this at www.walmart.com:

My oldest daughter just got introduced to Mario, so when I saw this I knew she would love these little plush guys and boy did she ever.  I almost bought them individually until I spotted the set, which saved me a lot of money.  I simply couldn’t resist myself and when I told my husband, he certainly didn’t put a stop to my craziness.  In fact, he said, “I’m not going to deny them anything,” so we’re both guilty.

I’m seeking a new plan and some major will power for next year.  Also, I need to include books in their wish list, which I did this year, but nobody gifted.  I’m going to have to emphasize this to family members that books are great gifts as well.  Yes, most kids don’t want to unwrap clothes and other stuff that’s not toys, but we have to try to change that.  I’m trying to teach my girls to appreciate any gift that’s given and not to compare how many each one gets or if one is better than the other.  It really bothers me when I see kids not being appreciative or whining that they want more gifts.  I also understand that I do create this sort of attitude by supplying all of these gifts so I’m definitely going to scale back for next year.

So no more crazy, toy madness.  I’m going to take some inventory and try to place my children in an environment that’s not over stimulating, even though I created it.  Ouch, that reality does hurt me.  My solution for now is going to be to put away some old toys while they’re playing with the new ones, give away toys they’ve out grown, for example the baby puzzles with the pegs on them (I have a stack of those that need to be given to new babies) and read, read, read a lot of books.

Merry Christmas Eve!

Hello everybody!  I hope you guys are well and having a great Christmas Eve.  My children placed a gingerbread cookie and a small cup of milk out for Santa.  They’re nicely tucked into bed and my husband and I are going to enjoy a DVD, the Avengers, before Santa comes with the Mercado gifts.

Mason jar + chocolates = great gift

Hello everybody!  I hope you guys are well.  I wanted to share a gift idea that I put together in order to give several of my closest aunts and cousins.

 I bought mason jars at the craft store (A.C. Moore) along with gold ribbon.  The candies I chose are Ghirardelli Chocolate Squares Limited Edition Peppermint Bark (delicious!) and Coconut Malted Milk Balls, which I ordered from www.ohnuts.com.  These are my absolute favorite and they were such a huge hit at my anniversary/renewal party that I decided to gift them again.

I made a paper label and tied the gold ribbon around the mason jar.

I put the coconut malted milk balls in a clear candy bag just in case they melted and placed 4 peppermint bark squares inside around the mason jar.  I like the way they came out and can’t wait to give them to my family members.  I hope you like this idea.

A cane, a ball, a cookie, and some liquor

Hello everybody!  I hope you guys are well.  Christmas is almost here and of course I’m not done with my shopping.  I desperately want to be done, but I’m not.  I still have to venture out into the cold and try my very best to buy all the gifts that I want to get and not let my mind go BLANK once I step foot into the store.  Does that happen to any of you guys?  If you’re like me and you still have some shopping to do, I wish you all the best and try to sneak in some peaceful moments for yourself.

My daughter, Olivia made this ornament at school.  According to her they used applesauce, cinnamon, glue and other ingredients/items (ex. glitter) to make this.  It smelled A LOT like cinnamon and I kept wondering if this was edible, but Olivia firmly stated that the teacher said, “It’s not for eating.”  Good to know.  Unfortunately, while we were studying, guess who decided to try a piece?  Little Miss Sophia, Olivia’s sister, swiped the candy cane from the table.  I did worry a bit because I didn’t know exactly what she had eaten, but it was just a piece and she didn’t get sick.  Phew!  The candy cane is currently hanging on the Christmas tree with the help of cardstock and ribbon glued to the back of it.

Olivia was given this gift from Santa who visited her school.  I got an arm workout using the hand pump that came with it in order to inflate this ball.

My daughter is having, well a ball with it, pun intended.  🙂  Thanks Santa!

Winter Assembly Show

Hello everybody!  I hope you guys are well.  Today was another first for my husband and me.  OUR DAUGHTER SANG IN HER FIRST SCHOOL SHOW!  Teachers, faculty members, and volunteer parents did a fantastic job in making sure that everyone, who came to see the show, signed in with their identification cards.  You could sense the anticipation and joy in the air.  Once the lights were dimmed, it was show time.  Two classes were brought into the auditorium, while the other classes waited out in the hallway.   A student from each class was chosen to announce their respected classes and the song they were going to sing.  As soon as the first class started singing, I immediately thought of the Sandy Hook tragedy and my eyes started welling up.  I took a deep breath and composed myself.  After the students finished singing, we clapped for them and they got escorted back out into the hallway as the next classes made their way in.  Olivia’s class was last and they were singing the songs, “Mamacita, Donde esta Santa Claus?” and “All I Want for Christmas”.  When her class finally came in, we waved like mad so she could see exactly where we were seated.  As they positioned all the kids into their places, my daughter’s teacher guided her to the front and I was so surprised to see that she was going to be one of the announcers.  I was so excited and nervous for my little girl, but she did a great job in announcing her class and the name of the song.   I was so proud of her.  We had a wonderful time hearing and seeing her perform.  All of the kids did a great job and I made sure to clap extra hard for each class because I believe it made them smile more to hear how much we were enjoying their performance.  We can’t wait for more moments like this and we’re definitely going to treasure it for the rest of our lives.

DIY IRON ON TRANSFER T-SHIRT

Hello everybody!  I hope you guys are well.  My heart is still quite heavy regarding the tragedy that occurred in Newtown, Connecticut.  I’m a mother of a kindergartener.  I don’t know what I would do.  I do wish everyone love, support, patience, and peace.

I wanted to share with you something that I’ve done as a gift for my father for years now.  The other day he wore a shirt that I had personalized for him using iron on transfer paper and fabric markers.  I made that shirt a looooong time ago and I was so surprised to see that he still had it and that it still looked great.  My mom mentioned to me that he loves wearing the shirts that I make for him, especially the ones with his grand-daughter’s pictures.  She said, “those are his favorite because he gets to show everyone his grandkids!”  Love it!

Here’s my process:

I purchased my iron on transfers and t-shirt at A.C. Moore.  The shirt was on sale for $2.99 and with a store coupon, I was able to get the transfers for half off.

Choose and print out your picture.  For this particular brand, I had to print my image as a REVERSE IMAGE.

You’ll need an iron and I use this piece of wood, specifically for my t-shirts so I just store it away when I’m done, along with a pillowcase.  I place the pillowcase on top of the wood so I can have a hard but smooth surface.  I always do the transfers on the floor so I can press down on the iron.

Cut out your design or image and place it on your t-shirt right side up so you can see exactly how it’s going to look.

Flip over the paper and center it once again.  I usually like to place the image one finger long down from the neck.

PrintWorks instructions: “Iron transfer with firm pressure in a straight, non-stop motion top to bottom and side to side.  Keep iron moving at all times to prevent scorching.”  Make sure your corners are ironed down.

Let your t-shirt cool off completely (this part is hard for me because I’m so impatient).  Then carefully peel away the transfer’s backing.
